JOHN C. BARNARD, MScEd     Co-Director

John earned a Masters of Science in Education in Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in Education/Applied Behavior Analysis from Temple University and is certified by the NJ Department of Education as a Teacher of the Handicapped. He has more than 15 years’ experience working with individuals with autism in both home-based and center-based instructional environments. Mr. Barnard has studied with and worked alongside many respected professionals in the field and has also provided ongoing training and consultation to instructional teams and families in many areas of the country. His primary clinical interests are in the areas of individualized and comprehensive curriculum development and the continued development of principled and analytic protocols to guide early intensive behavioral intervention for autism. Mr. Barnard is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and is familiar with many different approaches to skill-building and behavioral interventions.

VINCENT WINTERLING, Ed.D.   Associate Director

Vince Winterling earned a Doctorate in Special Education from the University of Kentucky. He is recognized as a national expert on providing behavioral and curricular supports for students with Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and has published extensively in such scholarly journals as Education and Treatment of Children and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Prior to his affiliation with ABC Consultants, Dr. Winterling founded and served as the Director of Devereux Consultants, providing positive behavioral supports for special needs and general education students within school districts throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Through his role as one of the directors at Devereux’s Center for Effective Schools, he provided development and supervision for Program-Wide PBS supports, staff training, and administrative consultation on a national level. In June 2009, Dr. Winterling joined ABC Consultants as an Associate Director and Coordinator of School- and Program-Wide Positive Behavior Support Services.

PHILIP CONCORS, MScEd, BCBA  (PhD ABD)  Co-Director    

Philip earned a Masters of Science in Education in Applied Behavior Analysis from Temple University and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. He began his work as a Special Education Teacher and has over twelve years of experience providing clinical and educational support to special needs children, adolescents, and young adults. Mr. Concors specializes in students with significant Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome, and children with pediatric disorders. He has presented at regional and national conferences and has current research interests focusing on Behavioral Medicine, including the promotion of health behaviors, treatment adherence,    and assessment of physiological influences on student behavior. Philip is currently enrolled in the doctoral program for Pediatric School Psychology at Lehigh University.

MARYLOU KERWIN, PhD, BCBA-D   Rowan University CBRS Director

MaryLou Kerwin is a professor of Psychology and Director of The Center for Behavioral Research & Service at Rowan University and is a NJ licensed professional psychologist. Dr. Kerwin received her training in behavior analysis at University of Notre Dame and The Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; she earned a doctorate in Counseling and Developmental Psychology and is Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D). Prior to joining the faculty at Rowan in 1996, she was on the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Pediatric Feeding Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. During her time at Rowan University, she served as Director of the Child and Family Assessment Program, as well as developing the Graduate Program in Applied Behavior Analysis. She is a nationally recognized expert in the assessment and treatment of pediatric feeding problems and is developing a productive research program in behavioral treatment of drug addiction. Dr. Kerwin joined ABC Consultants in June 2009 and will be coordinating several programs in the Positive Behavior Support Clinic, as well as providing consultative outreach and training.

MICHELLE SORETH PhD, BCBA-D   Rowan University

Michelle Ennis Soreth is an Assistant Professor of Psychology, Associate Director of The Center for Behavioral Research & Service at Rowan University, and a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D). Dr. Soreth received her initial behavior analytic training at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida under Dr. Maria R. Ruiz, and earned her Ph.D. in Psychology with a Specialization in Behavior Analysis at Temple University under Dr. Philip N. Hineline. She joined the faculty at Rowan University in 2006, and her work has recently appeared in several notable scholarly journals including Human Development and Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. Her research interests include the study of basic behavioral phenomena, behavior analysis for social justice, and improving the wide scale delivery of effective behavior analytic services. Michelle joined ABC Consultants in 2007 and currently provides direct consultation for special needs students in public schools, as well as teacher/staff training for classroom management and individual behavioral assessment.  Dr. Soreth will co-coordinate the practicum and internship programs for graduate students in the ABC Consultants Positive Behavior Support Clinic at Rowan University.
